This unit is even more impressive than it;s specifications. It is built with a solid aluminum case that feels solid in the hand. The internal speaker does better than you might expct from such aa small unit . The display is bright and easy to read although the touch functions are a bit difficult for larger fingers, an appropriate stylus will solve that problem. All in all I am delighted with this purchase.

sebborn I find it is quite sensitive to motion. Traffic in front of my house came close enough to trigger it but only directly in front of the camera. I had to watch it triggering to see what the cause was. Do you have a tree or something moving that sets it off?

sebborn It is possible but there is no extension cable included and you would need a mount since it is designed to fit on top of the camera.

sebborn What you see is what you get. It is easy to find a telescopic antenna though. Just do a search for SMA telescopic antenna.

sebborn If you do a search for "Malachite SDR" you will find links to the Russian author of the firmware (software stored in hardware). SDR stands for Software Defined Radio. As such, the author of that software allows it to run for frequencies from 50-200MHz at no charge for evaluation purposes. In order to unlock the software so that you can receive frequencies from 400MHz-2GHz you need to pay for a registration code that unlocks those frequencies. The registered version also has additional capabilities, most notably the ability to decode Morse Code and display the decoded text on the display.

Q: Does the 400Mhz-2Ghz cover also the 50khz-200Mhz? If so, Is this already the registered version?

sebborn Yes, all units cover 50-200MHz. Registration unlocks the capability to receive 400MHz to 2GHz along with other functions, most notably the ability to decode morse code.
