Andrew It looks like it's based on the unimat modellers lathe. It's not a precision lathe, but it'll do small hobby bits ok. Like mikey553 says, go real.

Andrew I built mine after gently sanding all the sheets first. you shouldn't need to cover this model. Keep it light.
