I got a set of these because I was powering some 12v LED strips with a 3-cell lithium ion pack. If you don't use a BMS like this, the LEDs will pull power until the batteries are 100% discharged, which will ruin them. This has worked reliably to shut off the LED strip when the battery voltage drops too low.
