My personal preference is the lower watts. Reason is that high continues heat degrade the tip much faster. You do wait longer for it to heat up, and when you need to melt a big junction, lower watt cannot do it. My standard soldering iron is a very old 220V, 15W Weller with no control. I forgot it on for many nights and it still work for years now with one tip replacement. Yes, you wait about 10 minutes for it to be hot, forget it to try and solder two 6mm wires together with some air movement around. the 80W will be hot in about 1 minute at most, and you can melt a big glob of solder . I will replace the 80W element as soon as the 60W arrive and see if it make any difference, I expect a few seconds longer to heat up at best. I suggest that you rather do not link the two as you say your old system is, (Probably PWM ??) it may or may not affect the charging ..management.. if you do link the two. I must stress that I'm making a practical deduction here based on experience, not based on true knowledge. (I have blown up my old Mercedes's climate control system by disconnecting the positive terminal, and put a big charger on the flat battery. In fact, it still run now for about a year directly from the panels, no control in between. I better check on it while you remind me, and clean the pump out.
