A major improvement is that the column on which the microscope is mounted can tilt backwards, so that much more space is available for soldering a PCB on the base. Tilting also helps against reflections in the image and it is much easier to decipher the lasered texts on chips at a certain angle. The LED lighting works great when it comes to getting a sharp and clear image of a detail of a part or a solder weld on a PCB. However, the color fidelity is worthless with this cold white lighting. If you want to take a nice picture of a small PCB, it is best to switch off the LEDs and use the natural ambient light. The microscope then provides much nicer and more color-true images. It often happens that we sell a tested product for half the price to one of our readers. That won't happen with this G1200(D) microscope! We keep it as a very worthy replacement for our old G600. After all, we are very satisfied with the quality and sturdiness of the G1200(D). The only downside that we can think of is the mechanical instability already described when you press one of the buttons, which causes the image to vibrate. A second later, however, the device gives a stable image again, you have very little trouble with it in practice.
