Used it on two 20-year-old direct AC soldering irons. Here are a few pointers: 1) Sand smooth the tips. It doesn't really matter that you take away the coating this product will re-coat the tip with tin. 2) Get your cleaned iron tip nice and hot I used it on a 25 watt and 60 watt iron the 60W iron produced a better result. 3) Keep working area ventilated with a fan blowing any fumes well away from you. The product consist of Ammonia Phosphate and Tin powder so the fumes do stink a little.

This cleaning paste is not cheap but works great to revitalize the tip. After applying it, the soldering tip gets clean and brilliant and all rust and resin rests are removed. Worth having it in your Workbench for occassional use when the wet sponge is not enough to completely clean the tip. It does a fantastic job!

When others said the container was small, they were not joking. The quantity supplied is very small. You should use it sparingly as you won't be able to do more than 4 large tips OR 8-10 fine tips. However, it will work out much cheaper than buying new tips (especially if you have genuine Hakko tips!), and it does an impressive job of reviving dull, lightly oxidised tips to bright and shiny, like new.
